Welcome to the Kids' Corner!  This page is designed to help families with children of all ages easily find information on local programming, child development and parenting tips.

Along the left side of the page there are links to the human service agencies and organizations participating in the Community Partnership for Children initiative.  You may also access the 2-1-1 database for free information on these and many other Brown County-area resources. Below is a listing of web resources for parents.  Several are geared toward early childhood, when the window of opportunity to positively influence children’s development is open the widest.

Brown County Parenting Resources Directory: This directory lists a wide range of supportive programming available to parents.

Brown County UW-Extension Parenting Newsletters: Links to parenting newsletters (birth to age 18) and audio podcasts. También en Español.

Parenting "Warm Line": Children don’t come with instructions. Brown County parents can call Family & Childcare Resources at 432-8899, Monday – Thursday 8:00am – 4:30pm and Friday 8:00am – Noon, to talk with a friendly, knowledgeable parent educator who will return calls within 24 hours if not immediately available.

Stepping Stones for School Success: A new resource created through the work of Partners in Education, in collaboration with Brown County United Way, the Community Partnership for Children initiative and New North, Inc.! This interactive growth chart is a wonderful educational tool for all parents of children aged birth to five, as it provides real-world examples of children's stages of development in four key areas.

40 Developmental Assets: Information from the Search Institute on the positive experiences and qualities that help influence the choices young people make.

Ages and Stages: Child development information from Iowa State University Extension. Download free age-appropriate newsletters in English and Spanish.

Born Learning: Provides free parenting tips and more! Focuses on young children’s needs and early learning experiences. Your Child newsletters are excellent! Tu niño a distintas edades en Español. The Kid Basics information packet is also very good; también en Español.

Child Welfare Information Gateway: A FREE mobile information service for pregnant women and new mothers provides information on prenatal healthcare and parenting tips. To sign up for this service, sponsored by the federal Children's Bureau, click here.

Children's Grief Education Association: Excellent resources on grief education for youth.

Just in Time Parenting: Free online resources for expecting and current parents, including teen parents and parents of school-aged children, from the national University Extension program. The E-Newsletters are great!

National Fatherhood Initiative: A nonprofit website providing resources for fathers. Additional resources may also be found at the federal website, fatherhood.gov.

National Institute for Literacy: A federal agency providing leadership on literacy issues, including the improvement of reading instruction for children, youth and adults.

Parenting Tips from Author Bonnie Harris: Interactive site where parents can view Harris’s archived newsletters and ask her their own personal questions, which she will answer.

Tufts University Child and Family WebGuide: A directory that evaluates, describes and provides links to hundreds of sites containing child development research and practical advice. Topics are selected on the basis of parent recommendations.

Zero to Three: Discusses and gives tips on topics like sleep, health/nutrition, play, child development, speech/language and brain development. An interactive Baby Brain Map is also featured.

Health and Nutrition

Dental Health: Tips and facts from the Centers for Disease Control.

KeepKidsHealthy: A pediatrician’s guide to your child’s health and safety. Includes information on a variety of topics such as dental health, mental health, articles on ADHD, common illnesses, and safety for infants, children and teens.

KidsHealth: Has sections for parents, children and teens.

Pediatric Health Information: Child and adolescent health information consistent with American Academy of Pediatrics' policies and guidelines. Features more than 300 topics organized by section and a searchable database of current health issues.

WIC Works: A-Z topics from asthma and breastfeeding to vitamins and weight gain during pregnancy.

Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care: Information for expecting and existing parents. Includes materials in Spanish.

Special Needs

American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP): To answer questions about autism spectrum disorders, the AAP offers a collection of interviews with pediatricians, researchers and parents. Click on the AAP link above to listen to these interviews.
