Program/Service Description:
Habitat is a non profit Christian housing ministry that puts faith into action. Habitat works in partnership with people in need to build simple, decent, affordable housing. Houses are sold to those in need--our partner families-- at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteer labor is used to build houses- this keeps building cost low for Habitat families. Habitat has 3 main selection criteria: need, ability to pay, and willingness to partner. You must be in need due to one or more of the following: *overcrowded or substandard conditions *cost to relation to gross income *current housing dos not meet the physical need of the occupant *unable to get conventional mortgage due to limited income Applicants must be able to show a steady source of income and financial responsibility. Applicants must show evidence of concern for proper maintenance of present living quarters. Applicants must be willing to participate in programs to develop and utilize skills in home maintenance. Applicants must agree to meet SWEAT EQUITY requirements: --500 hours for 2 adult families --300 hours for 1 adult families 100% OF HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE PURCHASING HOME! MUST FIT IN INCOME GUIDELINES. Down payment required - $600, half due when you are selected as a partner family, the remaining $300 when the home is purchased.
