Program/Service Description:
This program helps people living in a rural area, which is defined as communities that have a population of 20,000 or under and are not a part of an urban area. There are three options available to help finance a home. The 502 Direct Loan Program allows individuals or families who are unable to obtain home loans from conventional sources to receive a loan directly from Rural Development. No down payment is required unless family assets exceed a specified amount. The Guaranteed Rural Housing Program agrees to guarantee a loan so the lending institutions can help buyers while incurring less risk. The 504 Home Repair Loan and Grant Program makes loans for repairs to improve or modernize a home, make it accessible, make it safer or more sanitary or to remove health hazards.
