Program/Service Description:
The St. Vincent Hospital's Driver Rehabilitation and Safety Program evaluates impaired drivers and the basic components necessary for safe driving. The driving evaluation is conducted with an occupational therapist to assess physical, visual, and cognitive capabilities for steering wheel and console control, gas and brake pedal ability, problem solving, memory and attentiveness. Recommendations may include physical or occupational therapy to address motor and visual perception, optometry evaluation, driving equipment, on-the-road evaluation, and driving restrictions. St. Vincent Hospital's Outpatient Rehabilitation Dept. hosts the AAA 55 Alive Driver Training Program a few times throughout the year. Participation in the two part, half-day program can be applied toward auto insurance discounts in most cases. Please call for scheduled dates. For driver rehabilitation evaluations a physician referral is required.
