Program/Service Description:
The Brown County Volunteers in Probation program provides services to adults who have committed a first time misdemeanor offense. By using volunteer mentors and case management, VIP offers a means for early intervention that prevents the client from becoming more deeply entrenched in the criminal justice system. The primary mission of Volunteers in Probation is to give program participants the opportunity to develop a healthy lifestyle that reinforces making positive choices and leading productive lives within the guidelines of the law. By connecting participants with a volunteer mentor, the number of repeat offenses is reduced significantly. A positive role model assists the participant by: - Helping with the problems that led to his/her offense. - Offering alternatives for a healthy, more positive lifestyle. - Being a friend - someone who is honest, open, and accepting. - Developing a connection to a more responsible lifestyle within the community.
