Program/Service Description:
In April 1999, our growing community created a Leisure Services Department to focus on parks and leisure opportunities for its residents. We are committed to care for and preserve park land for the present and future residents of Bellevue to enjoy. The Recreation section of the department is responsible for providing recreational programs and activities for youth, adults and seniors. These include sports leagues and programs, leisure and fitness classes, instructional programs, and special events. In addition, the department cooperates with and assists many Bellevue groups, organizations and clubs to provide recreation services throughout the community. The activities are planned year-round and are published in the department’s seasonal program guides/flyers, which are available three times per year; Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring. The Parks/Forestry section of the department is responsible for 11 park sites and designated open space areas totaling over 150 acres of which approximately 60-70 acres have been developed for public use in the form of facilities, playgrounds, walking trails, etc. The department is also responsible for maintaining the urban forest. Major responsibilities include routine maintenance of facilities & equipment, providing support services for recreation programs, and park improvements & development.
