Program/Service Description:
Will evaluate children involved in setting fires and either educate them to the dangers of fire or refer them to appropriate County agencies for further help. Workers use standardized evaluation tests to screen children. Referrals can be made to family to contact program or a ROI can be obtained for GB Fire Department and CRC can call and provide info with referral. Program will make intitial contact in home, if possible they would like to see the damage from the fire. Formal assessment is done at GBPD in an interview room. Children under 10 usually start fires out of curiosity. Older children, usually between the ages of 7 and 13 may start fires because of emotional problems. The goal is to stop problem behavior before it gets out of hand.
