Program/Service Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeastern Wisconsin is a youth mentoring organization in the area. Since 1972, the nonprofit agency has professionally matched children who can benefit from relationships with additional, positive role models to volunteer Big Brothers and Big Sisters. "Bigs" and "Littles" are matched based on compatible personalities, hobbies, and interests. Big Brothers Big Sisters offers three programs: Community-based Programs, Site-based Programs, and Sports Buddies Programs. In the Community-based Program, Bigs pick their Little up at the Little's home and they share activities in the community together. In the Site-based Program, Bigs and Littles share simple, everyday moments together at the child's school or at the Boys & Girls Club (a partner of Big Brothers Big Sisters). Activities can include eating lunch, homework, sports, crafts, and games. Sports Buddies is the newest program being offered. It is geared towards putting MEN back into MENtoring. Big Brothers meet with their Little Brothers a minimum of two times a month for six months. Activities will be provided through Big Brothers Big Sisters and area partners. These activities might include going to a baseball game, throwing a football, learning how to fish or playing chess. National research and local data has shown that the positive relationships between Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their Littles have a direct, measurable and lasting impact on children's lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves over 500 youth annually, with the average enrollment/waiting time for youth 4 months, and the average enrollment time for volunteers 30 days. Each day, on average, Big Brothers Big Sisters has 150 youth who are looking for a Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple. Bigs and Littles share simple, everyday moments. Activities can include meals, homework, sports, crafts, games, cooking, movies, shopping, errands, library, museums, concerts, school events, etc.
