Program/Service Description:
The Telecommunications Equipment Program (TEPP) helps people with disabilities buy equipment they need in order to use basic telephone services. You need to be a Wisconsin resident, have a hearing loss, be deaf, speech impaired, mobility impaired, or motion impaired and need special equipment to use the telephone in the home or when traveling in order to qualify for the program. The amount TEPP will pay depends on the type of disability, The amounts are as follows: hard of hearing--$125; Deaf/severely hard of hearing--$800; Speech impaired--$1600; Mobility impaired--$1600; Deaf and visually impaired--$2500; Deaf and blind--$7200. For all categories other than hard of hearing you need to pay the first $100. You also pay any amount above the maximum amount allowed. Funds are available through the Telecommunications Assistance Program (TAP) to pay the $100 TEPP co payment for low income households that qualify. To get a TEPP/TAP application, contact the Public Service Commission at 608-267-1479 or 800-251-8345-TTY or 608-231-3305-voice, email pscrecs@psc.state.wi..us or you can download it from the web site. It takes about three weeks from the time you mail your application to process it and mail a check/voucher to you.
