Program/Service Description:
The St. Vincent Hospital Vision Rehabilitation Program recognizes that low vision due to macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, or other vision deficits affects all aspects of daily life such as home safety, reading medicine labels, paying bills, shopping, cooking and leisure activities. This program offers the visually impaired individual: peripheral vision training, eye exercises, vision occlusion training, environmental adaptations in the home, enhanced function in daily activities, training in use of specialized equipment, and compensation techniques. Each individual has a unique pattern of vision loss that affects their enjoyment of daily life. The program will develop an individualized therapy plan with each client and family. A physician referral is required for an evaluation and treatment with a specially trained occupational therapist.
