Must be over 65 years of age, a US citizen, not currently under the care of an ophthalmologist or have not seen one in the past 3 years, and not have access to an ophthalmologist through a prepaid health care plan or government care facility.

For those without insurance, there is no cost. Medicare and private insurance is accepted as payment in full.

Program/Service Description:
This is a service for visually impaired older adults. The Seniors Eyecare Project is a nationwide outreach program designed to make medical eye care available to older citizens, particularly those who may be without the means to pay. You are eligible if: you are over 65 years of age, a US citizen, not currently under the care of an ophthalmologist or have not seen one in the past three years, and you do not have access to an ophthalmologist through a pre-paid health care plan or government care facility. Doctors who participate have agreed to provide a comprehensive medical eye examination and treatment for any condition or disease diagnosed and requiring treatment at the time of the first visit at no out-of-pocket expense to the patient. Medicare and/or private insurance will be billed and accepted as payment in full. for those without insurance, there will be no charge. The doctor will provide continuing care for any ongoing eye disease for one year. The following are not covered by the program: eyeglasses, corrective lenses, medications, charges directly related to hospital services, related surgical services or other procedures such as anesthesia, and charges resulting from care provided by someone other than the ophthalmologist closest to your address.
