Program/Service Description:
The National Alliance on Mental Illness is dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life of those whose lives are affected by mental illness, depression, mood disorder or are obsessive compulsive. The alliance provides support through a mental health support group, a telephone help line and network, and sponsoring The Gathering Place located at 1001 Cherry St. A bimonthly newsletter and a lending library are also available. There is a support group for family members and a support group for those affected by a mental illness beginning at 6:30pm. Both meet at the Aging & Disability Resource Center on the second Monday of the month. A general meeting is held at 7:30pm following the support groups. Also available is the Family-to-Family education program which is a free 12 week course for family and friends of individuals with a mental illness. The course covers issues about mental illnesses, treatment, coping skills, and advocacy. The state organization is located in Madison and the web site is www.namiwisconsin.org.
