Program/Service Description:
Our mission is help adults and families acquire the reading, writing, math, English language, computer and workforce skills they need to be fully functioning community members. Services offered include One-on-One Tutoring for English Speaking and Limited-English Speaking adults ages 16 and up, English Language Learner classes (some with child care), Workforce Development that helps companies develop and implement customized workplace literacy programming for their non-English speaking employees and provides company-sponsored and community Spanish classes, citizenship preparation, the Even Start Family Literacy program (for parents of children 8 years and younger who wish to learn English or get a GED), Child Tutoring for educationally and economically disadvantaged elementary students who get help from trained high school students, and other educational activities. Services are free. Day and evening ELL classes available. Services are for people of any nationality, including Hmong and Hispanic individuals, and for English speaking adults who need to improve basic reading, writing and math skills. We also offer nationally certified tutor training workshops for adult volunteers who want to help an adult improve his or her English skills. All learners are tested for placement and monitored for learning gains and goal attainment. Tutors and learners are recognized annually for volunteer commitment and student achievement.
