Partnership With Organized Labor
Recognizing that a community-wide fund-raising effort is very effective, the AFL-CIO, as far back as the 1940's, joined with the United Way in a partnership for the good of the community. To avoid duplication of services, the AFL-CIO agreed to end its own social service fund-raising and encourage its members to become involved in and support the United Way. In this mutually beneficial relationship, AFL-CIO Community Services union counselors help workers to obtain services by directing them to agencies in the community.
