The Brown County United Way Emerging Leaders Society (ELS), in cooperation with Nicolet Elementary and sponsored by Ameriprise Home and Auto Insurance and Proctor & Gamble, hosted its 7th Annual Spring Fest at Nicolet Elementary in May. The Emerging Leaders Society Advisory Council selects an elementary school each year to host the event based on the school’s free or reduced lunch program rates and neighborhood characteristics such as income level, employment and diversity rates.
Spring Fest’s purpose is to link families with local organizations, service providers, and civic organizations that provide assistance in a variety of areas, including literacy, family health and wellness, oral healthcare, crisis services and finance management.
The 2015 event was truly a success with 361 attendees and 17 community booths, including Oral Health Partnership, N.E.W. Community Clinic, WPS, Wells Fargo, Girl Scouts, Literacy Green Bay, 2-1-1, Salvation Army and Brown County Human Services. At the community booths, families had fun making door hanger crafts and Alka-Seltzer rockets, learning proper tooth brushing techniques, planting flowers and taking part in other interactive activities.
The free event also included a dinner, balloon animals, professional family photographs, a free book for each child, and a free raffle ticket for every family to place in the raffle prize of their choice. More than 30 different prize packages were donated and included health and hygiene items, family-friendly gift certificates to attractions like Cosmic Bowling at Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley and Marcus Theatres tickets, to baskets full of fun, interactive activities.
We’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to the ELS members, Nicolet staff, volunteers, community organizations and companies who helped us carry out our mission of strengthening and improving the quality of life in Brown County!
